White Sands Australian Fashion Week 2013

Redken 5th Avenue NYC Hair Director; Paloma Rose Garcia created powdered texture for a subtle screen siren finish at White Sands, writes Abbey Swinn.

“The designer Leah Madden and I were really inspired by girls from the 60’s, the volume of the hair during this time was something that really resonated with us, and inspired us to re-create this look in a modern way” explained Paloma prepping for the White Sands 2013 swimwear show.

White Sands presented a palette of pastel colors coupled with soft floral prints against the darkness of a deep bronze tan. The collection told the story of a glamorous 1960’s girl holidaying in the tropics – grass green, magenta, exotic floral prints and delicate silk – a soft-luxe story calling for effortless, ‘just rolled in from the poolside, but ready for cocktails,’ vibe.

“Because the White Sands SS14 prints and colours were so soft, we really wanted to channel that through the hair design.”

Paloma demonstrated vested interest in foundation hairdressing and ‘old-school’ techniques through the use of curling tongs opposed to straighteners when creating the beautiful S bend that bounced, mid-back down the runway.

Paloma’s powdery vision for the 2013 collection was perfectly executed as models took to the runway challenging classic bombshell beauties like Bridgette Bardot and Marilyn Monroe.
